Nothing like sitting on the porch as the sun set and fingerpicking some blues.

The song above is my little spin on Spike Driver Blues – sometimes I sing it but in the video above I’m just playing the song and adding some of my little lead lines and riffs.  It’s a lot of fun to use songs like this as a springboard for bluesy playing and improvising.

 

Mississippi John Hurt lived from the late 1800s until the mid 1960s.  

He was rediscovered by some blues aficionados and

spent the last few years of his life performing.  

By all accounts he was tremendously charming

and his songs are very melodic and fun to play.
